From September 4 to 6, 2023, the Government of Kenya will host the Africa Climate Week, in Nairobi. This is a notable event on the climate action calendar in the run-up to COP28, where the first global stocktake will conclude in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December. Climate Investment Funds (CIF) will join a diverse group of policymakers, practitioners, civil society, and private sector leaders in the weeklong forum which runs alongside the Africa Climate Summit (September 4-8). These meetings form part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which holds regionally focused climate weeks to provide a space for “exchange on climate solutions, barriers to overcome and opportunities realized in different regions.”
As part of the official program, CIF will lead an interactive session on its new Just Transitions Planning Toolbox to introduce the unique resource to a range of stakeholders and focus on how a variety of groups, including civil society, can meaningfully participate in transition planning processes.
CIF will also participate in the B-Lab Africa Summit 2023. B-Lab is a nonprofit organization based in Kenya working with companies from across Africa to do business more sustainably and inclusively. The summit will bring together pan-African business leaders to work through how the private sector can play an active and influential role in achieving a just transition. This exchange will not only highlight the role the private sector can play in achieving just transitions but it will also help us gather insights and feedback on the accessibility to, and the use of, our Just Transition Planning Toolbox in the private sector.
Africa Climate Week is also an opportunity to collaborate with partners: CIF will deliver inputs on panel discussions with the African Development Bank (AfDB) on green banks as well as contribute to debates during the Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) Private Investment for Climate Conference on September 4 and 5.
