The first webinar of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Webinar Series was to intended to introduce and explain the CIF to the development community and engage with them in an open dialogue about the CIF. The event included presentations by representatives of key institutions responsible for the management and operations of CIF to provide participants with a clear and detailed introduction to the CIF’s mission, objectives, governance, and operations. The introduction was followed representatives from CIF pilot countries, who shared their perspectives on working with CIF to finance their countries' low-carbon and climate-resilient investment priorities.
Presentations were given by the Program Manager of the CIF Administrative Unit (AU) and the CIF Coordinator of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), two of the key institutions responsible for the management and operations of the CIF. The presentation by the CIF AU provided a clear and detailed introduction to CIF, including geographic and financial scope and scale. The presentation by ADB outlined the climate challenges facing its client countries and provides insights, from the multilateral development bank perspective, on their early operational experiences working with Asian countries to develop and prioritize their low-carbon development investments through the Clean Technology Fund.
The webinar concluded with a presentation by a representative from St. Lucia, one of the recipient countries under the Caribbean regional pilot program. The presentation described Saint Lucia's approach to climate resilience and shared their experience so far, working with CIF to develop and prioritize a strategic program of investments for climate resilience.
Online and in-person audiences will had the opportunity to engage with the speakers in a Q&A session.
