Results-based funding: update on new developments. Options for SREP?

This aims to explore how results-based funding could be used to support developing countries with ambitious plans for improving energy access, avoiding or reducing carbon emissions, and improving reliability. There will be a summary of results-based initiatives being developed by Norway, the UK and the World Bank, leading to an open discussion on whether, and how, results-based approaches could be adopted by SREP. All those with a direct interest in SREP are invited.

Hydrometeorological Systems & Weather and Climate Information Advisory Services Weather and Climate Information Systems usually managed by national meteorological services are a critical basis for adaptation and mitigation planning. Systems to collect data, manage and communicate key elements of meteorological and hydrological information, provide the basis for climate change assessments, and other information products, including early warning systems.

A short briefing event on hydro-meteorological technologies and services has been organized with the objective of providing pilot countries with latest information on this subject. The session will also introduce the Program of Strengthening Weather and Climate Information Decision Support System being pioneered through the GFDRR.

The Role of Gender in Mitigation Efforts

Women are experts, leaders, and agents of change in their own right within both adaptation and mitigation efforts on climate change. Their position within the climate debate must go beyond a characterization as mere “victims” or forming part of a larger collective of “vulnerable groups”.

While some work has already been conducted on the links between climate change adaptation and gender equality, recognition of gender aspects within a context of mitigation is still at an initial stage. Further work is necessary to raise awareness and acknowledgement of the role and contribution of women to climate protection in rural, peri-urban and urban contexts, both in the developed and developing world.
